Twojans Drop the Second Game
The second game started off with leadoff man Tom Wrightson getting all the way to second on an error, and making it to third on a wild pitch. This was followed by a ground out that kept Wrightson at third. However, his brother Ed Wrightson then brought him in on another groundout. Although Chris Pittard would then follow up with a single that was all the damage the Twojans would manage for the inning. The bottom half of the first saw the Twojans send southpaw Chris Pittard to the mound. Pittard got the first batter to pop up, and that was followed up by a single. However Pittard then responded by picking the runner off to get his second out. Then the Bladerunners bats responded with a single and a double followed by a home run. They did not stop there as the next batter singled, followed by two walks and another single before Pittard got a strike out to end the inning with a score of 5-1 in favour of the Bladerunners.
The second inning started on a good note as third baseman Jeff Ocenasek lined a ground rule double through the wall. That was followed by a single by Alirio Melendez Romero, as the two veterans with a combined age of 97 got the Twojans another run. That was all that would come in for the inning as the next three batters were retired in order. The bottom of the second saw Pittard walk the leadoff batter and then striking out the next. With one out Pittard then picked off the lead runner for the second out. Pittard got the next batter to ground to shortstop Tom Wrightson, who let the ball get away and committed an error. However, the very next play saw Wrightson show his mental toughness as he made an amazing range play on a blooper and caught the ball in shallow centre to end the inning with no damage done and the score at 5-2 Bladerunners.
The third inning the Twojans retired in order, bringing the Bladerunners back to the plate quickly. The bottom of the frame saw the Bladerunners start off with a leadoff double, and that same runner stealing third, which was followed by a walk and the lead runner scoring on a passed ball. Pittard then struck out the next batter, but that was followed by multiple Bladerunner hits with a single, then two doubles, another three singles and walk before Pittard struck out a batter to get his second out followed by a play at the plate on a hard hit ball to second where Melendez Romero gunned out a runner. The Bladerunners ended up putting another 6 runs on the board and the score stood at 11-2 in their favour.
The fourth inning saw the Bladerunners bring in a reliever who promptly got the first Twojan he faced to ground out. However, Ocenasek then followed up with another double to deep left field. The next two batters could not bring him in and that would be all the Twojans could muster. The bottom of the fourth saw Pittard strike out the first batter before giving up three straight singles to bring in another run. However, the next batter popped to Romero Menendez at second who then doubled off the runner at first to end the inning.
The Twojans were not able to score in the fifth and that would be the end of the affair with a final score of 12-2 Bladerunners.
Pittard took the loss, throwing 116 pitches with 5 strike outs, 5 walks, on 17 hits, with 12 earned runs. Twojan offensive standouts were Jeff Ocenasek going 2-2 with two doubles and a run, followed by Alirio Melendez Romero and Ed Wrightson with an RBI each.
