Game 1 - Liverpool Twojans 4 - 10 Bolton ROD
Game 2- Liverpool Twojans 13 - 7 Bolton ROD
The Robots were looking forward to hosting the Liverpool Twojans at Haltons’ Baseball Field. Their adopted home field. It was a game the Robots were looking forward to, having had 2 weeks off due to bad weather and unable to secure a home field.
As the Twojans started to arrive, the Robots were putting the field up…all 3 of them! (You can guess where this is going) 10:30 rolled around and the field was ready, all except for home plate. The plug hole for the home plate had vanished into the dirt!
The game finally got underway and due to both teams being let down with a couple of no shows the Robots of Doom lined up with 7 men and the Liverpool Twojans with 8 men. The game was played with a throw down home plate which would have to be suffice following a 1hr30 search for the hole.
It was quite possibly one of the strangest games this season, with innings going by at no time at all. The Robots got out to a fast start scoring 3 runs in the first and then shutting out the Twojans. Through 4 innings the Robots were 5-0 up and cruising with their infield consisting of Grantham playing between SS and 3rd, Sydall a tad closer to second than usual, S Ball slightly further off 1b. Our two outfielders Roberts and Gitt played left and right at baseline extended to pinch up the middle.
The Twojans pulled one back shortly after but going into the final inning the Robots put a few more runs on to take the game to 10-1. The Twojans put up a fight scoring 3 runs in the final inning but it weren’t enough and Kwok took the win with Jeff O’C taking the loss.
Game 2 came around with Hargan and Harris taking to the mound. In the early parts of the game Hargan struggled with control, a couple of walks and some good hits from the Twojans saw them race out to a 5-0 lead.
The Robots fought back, chipping away slowly at the lead before tying it up at 5-5 in the 5th inning. Twojans bounced back and took the lead again with 2 more runs following some good hitting off the now settled Hargan who had settled on throwing breaking balls. In the bottom of the 6th following some good clutch hitting from Kwok and S Ball, the Robots took the lead 8-7 going into the final inning.
It weren’t to be for the Robots with the Twojans coming alive in the final inning with some more good hits, finding many gaps and put on 6 runs, taking the lead to 13-7. The Robots came up to bat with 2 outs automatically and it was a “doomed” situation for the Robots. The Twojans took the win.
It was a split between the Robots and Twojans following some confusing moments with the automatic outs and a delayed start due to the debacle with home plate. It was two games played in good spirit in the sun.
